The title sounds like something of value, possibly. But it is mainly because I keep hearing I need to start a blog. So what have I learned so far about writing three books? Self publishing is a job. Whatever hours I spent writing those novels was probably doubled by learning a new business. And learning how to learn about that business. Really, before getting into this, I had no idea I’d spend so much time on front matter format, copyright, ISBN’s, editing software, finding an editor, writing software, book covers, formatting for three different uploads at different retailers, marketing on different platforms, IRS EIN’s, NC business registration, and on and on. And just as important, the order in which those things need to be done. It is basically a Ph.D in logistics and patience. I still don’t have it all right. Luckily, there are some good resources out there, most of them cheap or free, and I’ll eventually get around to those in another blog.
A lot of people ask me what is my writing style. OK, honestly nobody has asked me that since I don’t have fans yet nor give interviews (because, again, no one has asked me). But if I were to answer that question from my imaginary fan, I would have an eloquent and obnoxious response prepared. But I don’t need that yet. Perhaps the writing style is salami fantasy. Through some stuff in the grinder, guess at getting the mix right, stuff it into a big piece of pig colon, and let it all ferment a while. Now I just have to get Amazon to create a new category so I can sell a book and be a bestselling author in my category.
